CODE OF ETHICS

The Scottish Terrier Club of Greater Dayton was formed and exists to encourage and promote the breeding of purebred Scottish Terriers and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection. It is committed to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed and to encourage sportsmanlike conduct at dog shows. Toward these ends, the following practices are condemned as unethical and, if proven, shall constitute misconduct prejudicial to the best interest of the club or breed. Such activities shall be dealt with as provided by Article VI of the By-Laws to the Constitution.

 

  1. The indiscriminate breeding of stock without regard to the good health and physical condition of the dog or bitch at the time of breeding, or in disregard of known hereditary defects, or without consideration of the health and quality of the puppies produced by such breeding.
  2. The knowing misrepresentation of the health, physical condition, or hereditary defects, or the quality of any puppy or adult Scottish Terrier offered for sale.
  3. The wholesaling of litters of puppies, or the selling of puppies or breeding stock to, or through, such places as pet shops, catalog houses, or other commercial sources of distribution.
  4. The sale of puppies under the age of eight weeks of age, and the sale of puppies without at least the first set of shots, worming, or other treatment consistent with the latest technology in veterinary care for puppies.
  5. The knowing violation of any of the rules of the American Kennel Club regarding record keeping, registration, sale and transfer of dogs, or the rules and procedures regarding their exhibition.
  6. The lack of care for any Scottish Terrier within legal control, or the knowing harm to any puppy or adult dog.
  7. The over breeding of bitches for profit. The knowing violation of normally accepted ethical practices in breeding dogs.

 

Each member of the Club has an obligation to protect the best interests of the Scottish Terrier breed by conduct designed to reflect credit on him/her self, the breed, and the Scottish Terrier Club of Greater Dayton, Inc. The signing of this Code of Ethics shall signify the understanding of and the agreement with the purposes of the Club, and that the signer will not engage in any practice that is unethical to the best interests of the Club.
